“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
I have supported the following organisations because I am inspired by their work. I hope they inspire you too!
Peace One Day
Peace One Day is a non-profit organisation, impartial to and independent of any government, political persuasion, corporation or religious creed.
Filmmaker Jeremy Gilley launched Peace One Day in 1999, setting out to find a starting point for peace. His mission was to document his efforts to establish the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence with a fixed calendar date. Remarkably, two years on he achieved his primary objective when the 192 member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted September 21 as an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the UN International Day of Peace. We call that Peace Day.
Peace One Day has been instrumental in many humanitarian initiatives, including supporting the delivery of mass polio vaccinations in Afghanistan on Peace Day 2007. More than 1.4 million children were vaccinated in some of the most remote areas of the country, and a further 1.6 million the following year.
The UN International Day of Peace on September 21 each year is not only about creating peace between nations, it's about non-violence in our homes, communities and schools. Peace Day is therefore relevant to every human being on the planet.
