As we mature, many people find that typical birthday celebrations become less satisfying. The Birthday Circle is a beautiful, peaceful ceremony specially created to nurture and honour the Birthday Girl. Everyone within the Circle is given an opportunity to tell a loved friend how special she is, in a unique and meaningful way. Kick up your heels later with celebratory drinks and lunch or dinner.
What happens in a Birthday Circle?
Whilst each Circle is unique and can be tailored to meet individual needs, there are common threads that run through Birthday Circles.
– A beautiful altar complete with flowers, candles and crystals sets the mood in the middle of the Birthday Circle.
– The Birthday Circle opens with an explanation of the ceremony as well as cleansing of the room with a ‘smudge stick’ - a native American custom used to prepare a space.
– An optional short chant is offered to quiet the mind.
– A short, guided meditation continues the process of relaxing and unwinding. Cosy blankets are provided for those who would like to lie down during this.
– Guests bring an object that reminds them of the Birthday Girl and during this time they share qualities that they especially appreciate about her. Lots of laughter is shared at this time.
– Circle guests are given an opportunity to pamper and be pampered by each other by massaging each other’s hands with exquisite massage oil infused with essential oils.
– Pampering time for the Birthday Girl begins. She has the choice of:
> a herbal foot scrub, soak and foot massage performed by her friends
> reclining on a sofa, eyes closed and listening to beautiful music. Friends lay their hands on the Birthday Girl, sending her love and energy
- A wish or blessing for the Birthday Girl is written on a beautiful card and presented to her in a special bag as each guest lights a candle to symbolise their wish or blessing.
– Closure of the Circle, which can include dancing to the Birthday Girl’s favourite song to celebrate as well as presenting her with a beautiful booklet to keep - full of special mementos from the Circle’s guests and honouring their individual friendships with her.
– Materials are tidied away, leaving the guests to celebrate in another way - eating and drinking!
